Devotional Commentary

But when these things being to take place, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.

Luke 21:28

Jesus is taking a step back and refers to the whole discourse here. He would not have people to wait until He is revealed to look up. He is saying that when many of the things He references her occur, people should be looking for His return.

It is important to understand the word ‘redemption’ here. Redemption is used in Scripture to refer to any deliverance that God provides, whether by the force of His might or a price paid to His justice. In this case, redemption refers to the yet future works of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the soon return of Your Son! As we celebrate this week the redemption of salvation from sin provided by the death and resurrection of Christ, we look forward to the victory He is bringing to this world on the day that He returns in power and glory! In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray and praise You, Amen.
